Hello Dark Sphere!

Postby Ellundel » Thu Jul 14, 2011 10:07 am

Hello all at Dark Sphere!

Joined the forum today and just wanted to say a quick hello and introduce myself.

I am Shaun and I have been playing Magic on and off for many years, but have recently become more interested in it than ever and started to take it more seriously!

I attended last Sundays Pre-Release at the Punch Tavern (my first Magic event) with my friend Sam and thoroughly enjoyed myself!

I have started my collection over recently to get ‘up to speed’ with the current sets...
This collection starts at Core 2011 onwards, including (as I’m sure you all already know) Scars of Mirrodin, Mirrodin Beseiged, New Phyrexia and now Core 2012.

I will hopefully be coming to this Sundays Launch Party and hope to see some familiar faces!
(Especially as Sam is unable to come with me this weekend! I don’t want to feel like a fish out of water!)

I also play Warhammer 40K and am building a Black Templars / Standard Space Marine army at the moment, so would be willing to get involved with events for that too!

I learnt so much last week and had a really great time, here’s hoping next week is just as good and that I will meet yet more awesome people!

Welcome Shaun!

One thing we take pride in at Dark Sphere is our openness and welcoming nature to new (or returning) players. I'm sure you'll have a great time even if you do come by your own!

I recommend finding and joining the Dark Sphere fb page for updates and posts on forthcoming events, and this forum is perfect for getting to know the regulars.

We have a great range of skill in our players, and love nothing more than discussing cards and deck ideas, so if you have the spare time get stuck in on the forum.

We also have a growing Legacy interest, and Adrian (Elesh_Norn here) is the top man to ask about the format. We have a Legacy event on the 31st of this month so come along if you're around! Again, we have a wide range of skill so you don't need a £2000 deck to do well by any means.

In addition to Legacy we have a very strong EDH/Commander plauy group. 5 to 10 of us meet up regularly to play casually and it's by far the best format for making new friends and having banter. Andy Gregory (Prime on here, I think) is our resident EDH expert. Whether he knows it or not.

Tl;dr, welcome! :D

Hey Shaun,

Welcome to DS! Hope you have a great time playing regular magic! I'm normally at all the drafts that DS run - check out the calendar under the "London Shop" tab on the DS website - so hopefully I'll see you then. I'll be the dark-blond guy either getting over-excited about the bomb I've just opened, or getting over-excited about the silly bomb that somebody else has just opened. Love draft :)

See you soon, enjoy the forum, add me on fb, check out the DS facebook page in addition to the forum...and yeah, what Mark said.

Cheers,

Andrew

P:S - I normally have two decent-quality standard decks built so am quite a good person to ask if Alexi's running a standard tournament and you haven't had time to put something together of your own, or don't feel confident doing so, and you want to borrow something :)

Seeing as two of Dark Sphere's regular Magic contingent have all posted in response to you Shaun, thought I should push my oars in.

I'm Adrian and I'm the resident Legacy maniac here at DS. Mark, Andy S and the aforementioned Andy Prime make up the core of the resident Magic crew here at Dark Sphere, so if you've got questions they're the guys you want. Otherwise, the store owner Lexi is amazing and he's always happy to answer questions and queries. We're always keen to meet new players and help them out. We're always available on the forums.

In case you're wondering, we're all quite easy to spot (or hear... we're the noisy ones, though Andy S is easily the noisiest of the bunch :P) so please come on over and introduce yourself next time you're down: one of us will be there. There are plenty of awesome people at Dark Sphere and let me say, coming to the Prerelease was the best decision you ever made : ).

Looking forward to meeting you soon: hit us up on Facebook anytime. There's a Dark Sphere group you can join for updates and the forums are fantastic for getting hold of people!

Wow!

Thank you guys for such a wonderful welcome!

@ EleshNorn - Yes! I had such a fantastic time! So much so that I will coming up to The Punch tomorrow as well for some more Magic! Been looking forward to playing again all week and have been cramming in tons of games with my friend whom came with me last Sunday, in preparation for this weekend!

@ Andrew Sabisky - Thanks for the offer Andrew! If I catch you on Sunday I might have a chat with you about putting together a deck for standard! Standard is definitely something I will be wanting to get my teeth into!

@ MarkGunther - I have to admit Mark, I'm not sure Legacy is going to be a format I'm going to be taking much part in. I recently parted with a lot of my old cards via eBay and am going to focus my collections from Core 2011 onwards. I'm very much enjoying the Scars Of Mirrodin, Mirrodin Besieged and New Phyrexia sets at the moment! I WOULD however be interested in Commander! I would like to get into some of these 'side' sets because they seem very awesome within there own right. Do you also tend to run anything in regards Planechase or Archenemy? Or do you mainly stick to Commander?

I'm interested in getting into Friday Night Magic, but I unfortunately work on Fridays and probably wont be able to make it to the shop before 7! =( I assume this would be too late to get in on the action each week?

I have to say, one of the things I learnt from coming last week was: BRING SOME SPARE DECKS!!!
The event (naturally) takes a little while to set up, and before I even knew what was going on, some people were already playing Magic!

Anyways, hopefully I will be able to meet you guys on tomorrow if your around! That would be great if you are there!

Quick answers...

Archenemy not so much, but we do play a fair bit of planechase - sometimes with commander decks! I think Alexi has the planes <?>, and I know Graeme does, one of the guys who's often around.

Action on Fridays normally starts right at seven, so if you can get there for then, that's fine. But Alexi also runs magic every Thursday night, also starting at 7, if that's easier to make (check out the shop calendar for more details), as well as frequent weekend events.

I'm not around for the events this weekend as life is a bit hectic at the moment, but will definitely be down next week Thursday/Friday.

Re the Commander precons - DS, like the rest of the world, is currently out of stock, but WOTC are supposed to be hurriedly printing some more. When they come back buy buy buy, they are incredible product.

Always willing to chat about standard. Hopefully see you soon :)

Oh, I see, everyone getting one-up on my welcome. BE LIKE THAT THEN!

EDH is great fun, and definitely preorder if and where possible. 'Til that point just throw a load of random crap together. "Bad" decks are left alone, and con often win out of nowhere. It's all politics in EDH.

Ryder, if that's you, stop lying. It's all about Andy Sabisky's abs...

Not to mention my beautiful blue eyes. No, but seriously, they are stunning. Jace just loves them to bits.
